EARTHENWARE CHICKEN CURRY-VILLAGE STYLE / CLAYPOT CHICKEN CURRY RECIPE

EARTHENWARE CHICKEN CURRY-VILLAGE STYLE is an authentic chicken recipe of Tamilnadu. I learned this recipe from my mom. My grandma used to make this recipe in earthenware in a wood fire stove, we call it virakuaduppu(Tami).

During our summer vacation, we mostly prefer to go to grandma’s home, there we go to the garden, river, coconut groove, cooking in the garden -having meals, playing in the greeny land with my cousins is the best days to remember.. childhood days are always special to everyone. we all grownup and moving in this busy world, But this quarantine –Covid19 digs up my old memories.

I came to know about this recipe from my mom. with no delay, I prepared this chicken gravy and tasted it. you can make this recipe incomplete chicken curry and semi-dry chicken gravy recipe. I will show you the two mays of making chicken curry in a clay pot. yummy, My mom was happy and feel grandmas chicken gravy taste in this recipe.

What to eat with EARTHENWARE CHICKEN CURRY-VILLAGE STYLE ?

you can have this with hot steamed plain rice& rasam, hot idly, dosa, chapati, coconut rice, jeera rice, ghee rice paratha. you can use this chicken curry for chicken wrap stuffing.

EARTHENWARE CHICKEN CURRY -VILLAGE STYLE | CLAYPOT CHICKEN CURRY RECIPE

Ingredients
  

  • ½ Kg Chicken
  • 2 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp Corriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Poppy seeds
  • 1 Tomato
  • 8 Dry red chillies
  • ½ Mustard seeds
  • few Curry leaves
  • 10 Shallots
  • 3 Green chillies
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 6 Garlic
  • Required Salt

Instructions
 

PREPARATION

  • Take the chicken pieces with 1 tsp of turmeric powder add enough water and clean it twice, keep it aside 
  • Soak 8 dry red chillies with hot water for 10 min.
  • Dry roast 1tbsp of coriander seeds, 1tsp fennel seeds, 1/2tsppoppy seeds,1/2 tsp black pepper,1/2tsp of cumin seeds.
  • Using a blender/Mixie, Blend all the dry roast spices with soaked red chillies with little water into a smooth paste, keep it aside.
  • Blend the Ginger and Garlic into a fine paste using a blender/Mixie.
  • Slice the green chillies, finely chop the tomatoes, shallots, and keep it aside.

Method

  • Take an earthen pot to heat 2 tbsp of oil, mustard seeds,1/2tsp of cumin seeds, curry leaves.
  • Once the mustard seeds get popped out, add chopped shallots and saute well until the onion turns glossy.
  • Add the ginger-garlic paste, add 2 sliced green chillies, saute well until the raw smell goes away.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and mix well until tomatoes turn soft.
  • Now, add the cleaned chicken, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, salt, mix well.
  • Add the grounded masala paste and mix well.
  • Now, add 1/2cup of water, check for salt, mix well and close with a lid and cook well. (if you want more gravy, add 1/2 more cup of water).
  • (if you still need spicier- add chilly powder)
  • Stir it occasionally and cook well for 10 min, until oil gets seperated.(if you want gravy,at this stage turn off the flame and serve it hot )
  • If you want semi dry Chicken gravy,cook for few more minutes until all the water gets evaporated,turn off the flame and serve it .
  • Yummy spicy EARTHENWARE CHICKEN CURRY -VILLAGE STYLE |CLAYPOT CHICKEN CURRY RECIPE is ready . Serve it with hot steamed plain rice- rasam, hot idly, dosa, chapati, coconut rice, jeera rice, ghee rice paratha.

Step by step method of earthenware chicken curry-village style

Step 1: Take the chicken pieces with 1 tsp of turmeric powder add enough water and clean it twice, keep it aside. 

Step 2 :Soak 9 dry red chilies with hot water for 10 min.

Step 3: (i) Dry roast 1 tbsp of coriander seeds, 1 tsp fennel seeds, 1/2 tsp poppy seeds, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds.

(ii) Using a blender/ Mixie, Blend all the dry roast spices with soaked red chilies with little water into a smooth paste, keep it aside.

Step 4 :Take an earthen pot to heat 2 tbsp of oil, once the oil gets heat up, add mustard seeds,1/2 tsp of cumin seeds, curry leaves.

Step 5 : Once the mustard seeds get popped out, add chopped shallots and saute well until the onion turns glossy

Step 6 :Add the ginger-garlic paste, add 2 sliced green chillies, saute well until the raw smell goes away.

Step 7: Add the chopped tomatoes and mix well until tomatoes turn soft.

Step 8 Now, add the cleaned chicken, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, salt, mix well

Step 9: Add the grounded masala paste and mix well

Step 10 :Now, add 1/2cup of water, check for salt, mix well .

Step 11:close with a lid and cook well. (if you want more gravy, add 1/2 more cup of water).

Step 11: Stir it occasionally and cook well. (if you still need spicier- add chilly powder)

Step 12: Cook well until the oil get separates, (if you want the gravy to turn off the flame at this stage of the picture given below.)

Step 13:If you want semi gravy, saute and cook for few more min until all water gets evaporated and Turn off the flame
