Potato Paal curry recipe / Aloo Coconut milk curry recipe is a popular vegeterian recipe with common ingredients. It is usually found in all south Indian Tamil wedding Menu lists. Cooking Potatoes and peas in coconut milk gives you a delicious taste.

Here, the key ingredient is coconut oil. I prefer using coconut oil to enhance the flavor of the dish. My mom makes this recipe for Ammavasai (New moon day Lunch ) with the veg meal (viratham Sapadu). you can have it as a side dish for veg Thali or with Poori, appam, idiyappam, or chapati.

Tips to make Potato Paal curry recipe :

  • Use fresh potato and peas to get the perfect Potato Paal curry. if you don’t have fresh green peas you can use frozen peas or for Dry peas soak them for 3 hours and use them.
  • After adding coconut milk, Do not overcook the curry it may get curdle.
  • Adjust the spicy level by adding green chilies.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 grams green peas /Matar
  • 2 nos potato (skin peeled)
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup coconut pieces
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds & urad dal
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 no cloves
  • 2 no cardamom
  • 1 tsp ginger and garlic paste
  • 3 no Green chilies
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1 no small size tomato
  • 2 sprig curry leaves
  • salt to taste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cook the peeled potato slices and green peas in the pressure cooker for 3 whistles. Once the pressure is released, strain the excess water and keep it aside.
  •  Add coconut pieces, fennel seeds, and water to the blender and blend well

Method :

  • Heat a pan on medium flame to add coconut oil. Once the oil gets heated up, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, crushed ginger & garlic or ginger- garlic paste, green chiles, and curry leaves, and mix well. 
    Then, add the chopped onions and saute well until it turns glossy.
  • Then, add the cooked peas and potato with salt to taste. mix well. Add the chopped tomato and cook well for 2-3 min.
  • Now, add the coconut milk and check for salt. Cook for about 2-3 mins on Low flame.
  • Turn off the flame. The Yummy Paal Curry Recipe is ready. you can have it as a side dish for Veg Thali, Roti, Idiyappam, poori, and chapati.

Step by step pictorial method to make Potato Paal curry recipe :

Step 1: Cook the 200 grams of peeled potato slices and 200 grams of green peas in the pressure cooker for 3 whistles.

Step 2: Once the pressure is released, strain the excess water and keep it aside.

Step 3: Add coconut pieces, fennel seeds, and water to the blender and blend well.

Step 6: Now, add the coconut milk and check for salt. Cook for about 2-3 mins low flame.
